The Bengal cat derives from a combination of the domestic cat and the Asian Leopard cat bred by Jean S. Mill, making the bengal a hybrid. the breed was eventually accepted by TICA (The International Cat Association) in 1983. Since this time Bengals have attained Championship status with most prominent colors being Brown, Silver, and Snow (Sepia, Seal Lynx, Seal Mink) with spotted and marbled patterns being the officially recognized colors. The Charcoal, Blue and Melanistic Bengals are not officially recognized. Bengals are distinctive from the domestic cat in a myriad of ways. They have a very loyal and affectionate personality with a slightly larger build than a domestic cat. we have seen personally ourselves, and often hear from those who have bengals about the “wild” element that they possess which sets them apart. Bengals are well known for their high intelligence which will be noticed almost immediately. We’ve had and have bengals that respond to commands, learn tricks, play fetch like a dog, etc.
